Isn’t life funny when you are

you want to be all grown up and
when you grow up all you want is
to be
young
again.

I remember being little
wearing heels that didn’t fit
dresses that drug the ground
trying on Mommy’s makeup.

Lipstick on teeth
eyeshadow everywhere
blush as red as a fire truck
and as happy as could be

                                       by

Looking back now,
wanting to return
to the sandbox
playing with Barbies
having the time of my life
and leaving the grown up
                        heels
                                 at
                                       home.
